How to Prepare for Your Headshot Session (And Actually Enjoy It)
You finally booked a professional headshot session. Now what?
We all know the impact a good headshot has on your business. The right picture will help you attract and connect to your target audience, while the wrong one could drive them away.
No matter what you do for a living, a strong headshot is a must. The expression, body angle, head position, everything matters when it comes to sending the intended message. But let’s be honest, most people feel a little awkward in front of the camera with lights pointing at them.
The good news is that, with just a little preparation, you can show up feeling confident, relaxed, and ready to shine.
Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your headshot session and actually enjoy it:

1. Plan Your Outfit Wisely - Ahead of Time!
Avoid wearing loud patterns, graphics or logos - Solid colors or textures always photograph best.
Make sure your outfit is clean - That means free of stains, lint and wrinkles - every little thing shows!
Bring a form-fitting jacket or sweater - It’s a great way to quickly create a new look.
Give preference to long sleeves - It works best for everyone
2. Hair & Makeup
Stick to your usual look - Avoid going overboard with your hair and makeup - you should look how you show up for your clients.
Women: Avoid heavy foundation or shimmer - these don’t translate well on camera. If you have any skin issues you may want to cover up, just let me know and I can easily remove them during image retouching.
Men: Keep your facial hair trimmed and neat (beards, nose, ears, and eyebrows).
If you need a haircut, do it at least three or four days before your session - so your hair has a chance to settle in and look natural
3. Relax
Get a good night’s sleep!
Have a light meal before you leave for the session.
Give yourself extra time to get to the session so you’re not rushing.
Play your favorite music on the way, and bring it to the studio with you - the right music does wonders to your mood!
4. Trust the Process
You don’t need to know how to pose — that’s my job. I’ll guide you every step of the way so you feel confident, natural and look your best.
Together we will create headshots that look and feel like you!
