Thinking of Hiring a Photographer? Read This First!

If you're about to book a photographer, asking “how much” is just the beginning. Pricing alone won’t give you the full picture, because not all photographers offer the same deliverables, service, or value.

Comparing photographers based on price alone is like comparing apples to pineapples. Some include images in the session fee, others charge separately for image. Some deliver only web-size files, while others provide high-res digitals. Turnaround times and included retouching can be completely different.

To compare apples to apples and make an informed decision, here are some essential follow-up questions:

✅  Are images included in the session fee? If so, how many and how much for additional images? If not, what’s the cost per image—and are there discounted packages?

✅ What size are the image files? Are they web-only or full-resolution digitals? If web-only, what’s the fee for upgrading?

✅ What kind of retouching is included? If I want extra edits, how much will that cost?

✅ Are there any additional fees or optional add-ons I should know about?

✅ What’s the turnaround time to view proofs and receive the final images?

✅ How will the final images be delivered? (Online gallery, USB, prints, etc.)

Price matters—but value matters more.

By asking the right questions, you’ll be better equipped to choose a photographer who not only meets your needs, but also your expectations.
